March 2010 Meeting Notes with Joys and Concerns

MARCH MEETING NOTES:

The Starlight Shrine #1 March 6, 2010 meeting will be Elections. Please remember that you have to have your dues paid current in order to vote in the elections. Additionally, Annual Reports are due. There will be a potluck dinner after the meeting. The theme is “He has the whole world in His hands.” Please contact Soj. Fran Ruszkai about what your favorite dish is that you will bring. The best way to contact Soj. Fran is to leave a voice mail message on her cell phone.

JOYS:

Happy Birthday to our Sojourners listed below who have a March birthday. May you have many, many more!

Ron Anderson – March 19

Joe Dolosich – March 1

LaVerne Willman - March 21

CONCERNS:

Our most heartfelt condolences go out to Soj. Sharene Parini and her family on the loss of our beloved Soj. Dorothy Jahnke. Soj. Dor peacefully passed away in the afternoon of Thursday, February 25, 2010. A service for her will be in Illinois and details are pending. Soj. Dor has been affiliated with Starlight Shrine #1 since May of 2007. Her steadfast presence at our meetings will be sorely missed but we may rejoice in the knowledge that she now stands in the presence of our Lord and Savoir, Jesus Christ.

Also, please keep in your prayers:

Soj. Shirley Davis, Worthy Treasurer, in prayer for healing from a recent health matter.

Soj. Ken DeLaat, PWOS, and Soj. Terry Thompson in prayer for their safe travels relating to OES.

If there are other members with Joys or Concerns, please let either Soj. Kathy Bruck, Worthy Chaplain, or myself know. Thanks.

Joys and Concerns Catch-up as of 11 Feb 2010

STARLIGHT SHRINE #1, LAS VEGAS, NEVADA
JOYS:

It was called to my attention that Soj. Lucille "Mom-a-Sone" Kubic, who was honored at the Starlight Shrine #1 WSOJ meeting this past Saturday with the Continuous Service Award, is also a Charter Member of Starlight Shrine #1, Las Vegas, Nevada.

Soj. Jean Castro reports that she is feeling better from her recent knee surgery. Please keep her in prayer for continued recovery.

Soj. Wendy Welch's recent medical procedure went well. It was great to see her at the meeting this past Saturday.

Soj. Wanieta Iness, Worthy Organist, was looking well and doing better when I saw her at church the other day.

Soj. Roger Noyes reports that he is feeling better and getting stronger each day. He continues with three times a week dialysis treatments.

SUPREME JOYS:

Jay Sade, SAWOS, reports that Linda recently had spinal surgery that went very well and she is now out of pain. She wants to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers. Keep them up. They definitely help.

STARLIGHT SHRINE #1, LAS VEGAS, NEVADA
CONCERNS:

I received an email note today from Soj. Monie Mendoza that when they went to visit Soj. Dor Jahnke at the Silver Hills Rehab Center, they found out that she is back in the hospital.

Please also keep Soj. Sharene Parini, Worthy Shepherdess, in prayer while she confronts these challenges along with her mom, Soj. Dor, especially since Soj. Sharene has her own physical challenges she is handling.

Soj. Faun Olsen has been in our prayers for recent medical issues.

Soj. Chris DiGuilio was supposed to have surgery in January; however, it was postponed. She's still been having a lot of back pain while she waits.

LEBANON SHRINE #93, MT. VIEW, CALIFORNIA
CONCERNS:

Soj. Dode Schubert, Second Hand Maid, fell and dislocated her shoulder. Her arm is in a sling and she is at home recuperating.

Soj. Clara Porter, PWHP of Lebanon Shrine No. 93, took God's Hand on January 2, 2010.

HEBRON SHRINE #6, SHREVEPORT, LOUISIANA
CONCERN:

Soj. Yvonne Lee was robbed, shot and killed on Wednesday, February 3, 2010.

She was taking one of her co-workers home from work. She was the Assistant Director of Shreverport Green which hires at-risk teenagers to help them get back on the right road to becoming productive citizens rather than a burden to the community. Soj. Yvonne was a very sweet, well-liked person who never had anything bad to say about others. She went out of her way to help whenever she could.

Soj. Yvonne had just recently became a member of Hebron Shrine #6 in Shreveport, and was starting to become very active in our Shrine. She filled in wherever we needed her, and was trying to learn more about our work. Soj. Yvonne was loved by all and will be sorely missed.

Note: If I have missed a recent (since January 2010) Joy or Concern that pertains to you, please notify either myself or Soj. Kathy Bruck, Worthy Chaplain, so we can get the word out.

I have tried to get the fonts to all match, but when I copy and paste from the email messages, the text continues to retain its original formatting. That is why all the notice sections are different sizes.

Soj. Ken DeLaat, PWOS Presentation

Sojourner Ken DeLaat, PWOS, was presented with a "Certificate of Appreciation" at the February 6, 2010, meeting for his service as WOS this past year. Soj. Ken has other commitments and will be unable to attend the March 2010 meeting. He was quite surprised by his presentation, stating, "I certainly didn't see that coming." Thank you, again, Soj. Ken for being my WOS this past year. Your help and guidance has been extremely beneficial.

Although my camera was not ready to record the actual presentation, below is a photo of Soj. Pam Noyes, WHP and Soj. Ken DeLaat, WOS taken right after the meeting.

Feb 2010 Meeting Reminder with Birthday and Joys and Concerns

Hello, Sojourners and Friends,

For all Starlight Shrine #1 members (and other Shrine members who may want to visit), our regularly scheduled meeting will be this upcoming Saturday, February 6, 2010, beginning at 3:00 p.m. This is our "Sweetheart" themed meeting and we will be presenting our Miriam and Continuous Service Awards at the dinner following the meeting.

Please join me in saying "Happy Birthday" to our member whose birthday is in February:

Soj. Terry Thompson - Feb. 6th

Concern:

We have an urgent, urgent prayer request for Soj. Dorothy Jahnke, who was hospitalized in Centennial Hills Hospital with congestive heart failure. This is our Worthy Shepherdess Soj. Sharene Parini's mom.

Joys:

Tim and I celebrated our first wedding anniversary, along with attending Sophia's first birthday party, yesterday. Can you believe it's been a whole year gone by already?? It seems like it was just a few days ago.

Below are more concerns that have been forwarded to us. Please keep these Sojourners and their families in your prayers, too.

See you Saturday!
